Graduating ECV Seniors Can Now Purchase Their Chromebooks! #guhsdtech Click for more info!

We have started selling Chromebooks to graduating seniors! The GUHSD board passed a resolution to sell seniors their Chromebooks (their 720 or 740 Acers) and chargers for $20 total.

On 6/1/17, Social Science teachers are bringing their students to either return their Chromebook, or buy it.

However, in order to avoid dealing with large crowds of seniors buying Chromebooks on 6/1/17, we're letting most seniors purchase their Chromebooks early if they wish.

Their Social Science teachers have given seniors this form (we have more in the library if needed) that explains the process.

Briefly, here is what seniors need to do if they wish to purchase their Chromebook:
  • complete the form you received from your Social Science teacher
  • bring that form to the library
  • have no outstanding fines
  • bring your Chromebook to the library
  • bring your charger to the library (the one we checked out to them--not a friend's--not an extra one from a teacher's class)
  • bring $20 cash to the library

Of course, there are going to be unique situations that will come up during this process. Here are a a few quick responses to frequently asked questions:
  • Can I buy my Chromebook if I have Chromebook fines on my account?
    • No.
  • Can I trade in my Chromebook and buy a different one?
    • No. You can only purchase your Acer 720 or 740 Chromebook. We hope you took good care of it over the years!
  • What if I don't have my charger?
    • You need to bring your charger, your chromebook, your form, and $20. If you left your Charger at home today, try again tomorrow.
    • If you lost yours, we can mark it lost, and then students can "buy" that lost charger (and then buy a charger for your Chromebook on your own)
    • If you don't have a charger on your account for some reason, we can sell you one of ours as part of this whole $20 purchase.
  • What if I don't want to buy my Chromebook for $20.
    • That's fine--you will simply turn in your Chromebook and your charger by 6/1/17.
    • When you return your Chromebook, it must be free of damage and working properly. If it isn't, you will be fined for the damage (scratched case, missing keyes, cracked screens, etc.).
      • For many students, buying the Chromebook for $20 will make more economic sense that paying $30-$140 for Chromebook repairs.
  • If I buy the Chromebook, will it be unlocked?
    • Yes. District Tech Personnel will be unlocking all purchased Chromebooks by 6/30/17.
  • If I have old Chromebook fines, can I just pay $20 and have those old fines forgiven?
    • No. Fines/charges for Chromebook repairs come from work that was done to repair your Chromebook.
    • There is an option to "buy" a completely lost Chromebook, though. For example, if you lost a Chromebook, and so you have a $200 fine on your account, you have the option to "buy" your lost Chromebook for $20, thus reducing that $200 lost fine to $20. This can only be done for one Chromebook. If you use this option, then you must turn in the Chromebook you received as a replacement for your lost Chromebook (and it must be in good condition--damage free, otherwise, you'll have fines to repair that one).
  • What if I don't buy or turn in my Chromebook by 6/1/17?
    • All senior Chromebooks must be turned in or purchased by 6/1/17. Any senior Chromebooks not purchased or turned in by 6/1/17 will be locked.
  • Do I have to wait until 6/1/17 to buy my Chromebook?
    • No! If you are certainly graduating then you can buy your Chromebook in the library now.
  • I'm not graduating, can I still buy my Chromebook?
    • Not yet. Seniors not completing high school will need to turn in their Chromebooks by 6/1/17.
    • If you graduate during the summer, or in the fall of 2017, you will be able to buy your Chromebook then.
