Proud History of ECV

The ECV Museum is nearly ready to be open and we will soon give you hours!  Until then, here is a story about our school:

In 1957, The El Cajon Cross Country team won the state championship while running BAREFOOT.

The six runners from the school all placed in the top 19 in the state.  We have possession of a Letterman's jacket from a State Champ and an accompanying newspaper article highlighting the details of their achievement.

Wendell Maize, a former student and long time coach and Art teacher at ECV, was kind enough to donate his jacket and the article that he had preserved.  We also have the yearbook from that year, as well as all the years, that show the athletes running barefoot.  The legendary Joe Brooks was the cross country and track coach during those early years and wanted to teach his athletes that they could overcome pain and to learn how to persevere.

We will continue to highlight important past events of ECV until we have a Grand Opening of the Braves Museum.
