Spanish 1C/2C
This is a two-semester course that serves as an introduction to the Spanish language by means of the communicative approach. The student encounters the basic grammatical structure of the language in its cultural context through a variety of activities, and carries on simple conversations. General emphasis is on listening and speaking. The course is designed for the college preparatory student and meets the UC “e” foreign language requirement.

Spanish 3C/4C
This two-semester course is the second year of study for the Spanish language. It is a continuation and expansion of the basic language patterns of Spanish 1C and 2C. Emphasis is on increasing communicative skills and cultural awareness of all people who speak Spanish. The student must have received at least a “C” in Spanish 1C and 2C to be enrolled. This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language and “g” elective requirements.

Spanish 5C/6C
This is a two-semester course for students who have completed two years of study of the language with a “C” or better in Spanish 3C and 4C. The student should attain a mastery of fundamental Spanish grammar and should be able to converse with a minimum of grammatical errors. The students are expected to participate freely in all classroom activities. They will attempt simple compositions related to daily experiences or reading matter of the course. Reading selections include works by recognized Spanish authors. This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language and “g” elective requirements.

Spanish 5H/6H
A two-semester course conducted exclusively in Spanish that requires greater depth, quality, and linguistic acumen from the student than the college preparatory curriculum. Students should demonstrate above average command of sentence structure and all basic grammar in oral and written language by the end of the course. Course requirements include, varied and consistent oral participation, weekly addition of a significant number of words to the student’s recognition and usage vocabulary, regular study of literary works of recognized merit, and writing development assignments. Prerequisite: Completion of Spanish 3C-4C, or equivalent, and teacher recommendation. This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language and “g” elective requirements.

AP Spanish Language
A two-semester course in Spanish Language designed to provide the capable student with the opportunity to take part in a college-level course while attending high school. The curriculum is consistent with the Advanced Placement Course Description published by the College Board. Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation. This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language and “g” elective requirements.

Spanish for Spanish Speakers 1C/2C

A two-semester course designed to help the college preparatory native Spanish speaking student gain literacy skills in Spanish. Basic reading is emphasized, using short stories, articles, and simplified novels. Grammar is introduced. History and cultures of Hispanic people are studied. Specific writing projects are assigned. This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language requirement.

Spanish for Spanish Speakers 3C/4C
A two-semester course designed as a continuation of Spanish for Spanish Speakers 1C and 2C, with more advanced grammar, non-simplified reading materials, spelling lists, and more advanced vocabulary study. This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language and “g” elective requirements.

Spanish for Spanish Speakers 5C/6C
A two-semester course designed as a continuation of Spanish for Spanish Speakers 3C and 4C. It is an intermediate course with continued emphasis in reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. It also covers the reading of more difficult literary works, as well as the continued study of Hispanic culture and history.

Arabic 1C / Arabic 2C

This is a two-semester course that serves as an introduction to the Arabic language by means of the communicative approach.  The student encounters the basic grammatical structure of the language in its cultural context through a variety of activities, and carries on simple conversations. General emphasis is on listening and speaking.  The course is designed for the college preparatory student.  This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language requirement.  Prerequisite: None
 
Arabic 3C / Arabic 4C

This two-semester course is the second year of study of the Arabic language.  It is a continuation and expansion of the basic language patterns of Arabic 1C and 2C.  Emphasis is on increasing communicative skills and cultural awareness of all people who speak Arabic .  The student must have received at least a “C” in Arabic 1C and 2C to be enrolled.  This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language requirement.  
 
Arabic for Arabic Speakers 1 / Arabic for Arabic Speakers  2

Introductory Arabic for Arabic Speakers is a one-year course designed to help native Arabic speaking students gain literacy skills in Arabic. The course emphasizes reading, using short stories, articles, and simplified literature as well as listening, speaking, and writing skills. The alphabet, phonology, grammar, and vocabulary of Standard Arabic are taught. Arabic culture, the importance of each region of the Arabic world, music, food, religion, politics, and economy will be examined and explored. This course meets the University of California “e” foreign language requirement. Prerequisite: None

Arabic for Arabic Speakers 3C / Arabic for Arabic Speakers 4C

This course is intended for students who have some previous knowledge of MSA, and as a result are at an Elementary level of proficiency according to the ACTFL proficiency guidelines. It uses an integrated communicative approach that targets overall language proficiency outcomes with the goal of reaching an Intermediate Low proficiency level. The course is designed to increase your competence, confidence, creativity, and critical awareness in Arabic, preparing you for meaningful interactions in our content-based Arabic course. You will listen to native speakers talk about various topics of interest, then discuss, read, and react through oral and written presentations and projects.
